We are pleased to announce the 2012 Besmilr Brigham Women Writer Award has been awarded to Jessica Baran for her manuscript Equivalents.

About Equivalents: The thinking, complex systems of logic and spatial relations in Equivalents are immensely satisfying. This book is not afraid to describe, but does not let its descriptions take over either. Equivalents holds together, it is complete.

Read more about Equivalents in an interview with Scarlata at St. Louis Magazine.

About the Besmilir Brigham Women Writers Award: The Brigham Award commemorates Besmilr Brigham, a thoroughly independent and distinct American voice, and champions the work of other women writers. Recognizing that publishing opportunities for female writers are limited (see the work of VIDA: Women in Literary Arts), the Brigham Award was created to support female poets beyond the coasts of the U.S., and to celebrate Brigham’s intense commitment to writing as an artistic practice.

Publication of Equivalents is partially funded by individual donations and through a grant from The Wyoming Council on the Arts.
